Bodfari to Llandegla: The Clwydian Range

A day of big climbs and even bigger descents. Start early and make the most of the stunning views out to the Carneddau in the West. It’s quite a remote ride so pack plenty of water and snacks. The descent from the entry into Moel Famau Country park at Moel Arthur is a particular highlight.

Watch Chris and Manu's Mountain Bike Adventure to get a taste of what's in store.

Corwen to Trawsfynydd

You’ll learn how remote and beautiful Wales really is on this route that takes you out of Denbighshire and into Snowdonia. You’ll be rewarded for the long slow climbs by views out to the big mountains and fast flowing doubletrack descents. Keep an eye out for cattle as you cross the grazing land!

MTB Meetup Dee Valley

Fitness/Skill: Hard/Intermediate  Total Distance: 42  Ride Time: 6 Hrs

kf0dkf0d

A route for riders with a fair level of fitness, but expert skill is not essential as the route includes lots of double track, and some great descents! The emphasis here is freedom, space and exploring the less-ridden trails of Llantysilio Mountain.

Definitely a route for the committed, with 1250 metres of wonderful Welsh climbing and views of the Dee Valley, the Clwydian Range and, on a clear day, Snowdonia and the Pennines.

Starting from the mountain bike centre at Coed Llandegla, the route uses short sections of road to connect with Llantysilio mountain and the great network of untamed trails. Look out for the blue bridleway markers, but be aware that things can quickly change out in the open. Take an OS map with you and have a general idea of your route before you go.

Take yourself on a true Wales Adventure and enjoy the natural trail network on offer. The roads can be used as escape routes, should you need to shorten your route, and please remember to take an OS map and all the essentials you might need out on a mountain!

This route was developed as part of the MTB meetup event - the original social gathering for the mountain biking community http://www.mtbmeetup.uk/

Dolgellau to Barmouth, via Cadair Idris

An epic climb to end an epic adventure. The iconic Cadair Idris sits at the bottom end of Snowdonia but it’s imposing shape casts an imposing shadow over the landscape. Accessible right to the very top, if you are lucky with the weather you can see for miles and miles. Be warned, the road out of Arthog is very steep but as with everywhere in North Wales, you are rewarded for the climbs with fun, fast and flowing descents.

Tough at the Top

Fitness/Skill: Hard/Intermediate  Total Distance: 57  Ride Time: 4.5 Hrs

Well here is a route that lives up to its name. Taking you from the picturesque lake at the sheltered Bod Petryal picnic site right up to the exposed moorland that surrounds Llyn Brenig .With almost 1500m of climbing to endure, you'll really appreciate the tremendous singletrack descents towards the end of this ride; they really do make all the effort worth while.

5
The Two Lake Tour

Fitness/Skill: Hard/Intermediate  Total Distance: 49  Ride Time: 4 Hrs

kf0dkf0d

This great route takes you from the village of Llanfihangel GM on a tour through Clocaenog Forest up to the Alwen Resevoir. There you will cross the dam and continue on to the larger Llyn Brenig, via forest roads. On the route back take a moment to climb up Craig Bron Banog for breath taking views of Snowdonia and the Clwydian Range.

6
Llandegla Red

Fitness/Skill: Hard/Intermediate  Total Distance: 18  Ride Time: 1.5 Hrs

kf0dkf0d

If you are a proficient mountain biker with a high skill level then you must try this fantastic route. This trail shares the same gradual ascent through the forest with the ‘Moderate’ (blue) route.

When it splits off at the top of the forest, the longer red route sends you on a series of more technical challenges, with unsurfaced singletrack (0.6m-1.2m) and steep flowing sections of trail cutting through the more remote areas of the forest.

This trail utilises huge unavoidable bermed switchbacks, whoops, water crossings, tabletops and boardwalk. As well as being a longer route there are also more uphill and downhill sections. A high level of fitness, stamina and experience is needed for this route.

Her Hiraethog Extended

Fitness/Skill: Hard/  Total Distance: 63  Ride Time: Hrs

kf0dkf0d

Experience the breath taking moorland of the Mignaint, Ysbyty Ifan, Penmachno and Nebo. A harmonised on-off road route through rugged terrain of southern Conwy.

8
Triban Trail

Fitness/Skill: Hard/Intermediate  Total Distance: 185  Ride Time: 24 Hrs

kf0dkf0d

The Triban Trail is a 3 day, 185 km mountain bike adventure using as much natural trail as possible with some man made trails and quiet lanes, giving you a real taste of the region.

Delivered through the North Wales Cycling Centre of Excellence project, this route has seen new permissive access created, neglected paths rediscovered, problem areas improved and some old favourites thrown into the mix too.

Developed as a three day route, you can pick your start point and direction of travel, but we have split it into 3 suggested day routes to help you out!

8
Almost the Delyn

Fitness/Skill: Hard/Advanced  Total Distance: 78.8  Ride Time: 8 Hrs

kf0dkf0d

The Delyn Challenge was an annual endurance event held along the Clwydian Range. This route reminices Delyn Challenge with a little bit added on, just in case you found it too easy. Expect to be out most of the day on this one, and don't expect it to be plain sailing. He who takes this route too lightly, can expect to pay a heavy price - sore legs at the very least! So go on, get out there and enjoy it!

9
Going Backwards

Fitness/Skill: Hard/Intermediate  Total Distance: 37  Ride Time: 5 Hrs

kf0dkf0d

Ridden in a Clockwise direction this ride really does have a wilderness feel about it. With the start and finish in the historic market town of Ruthin, the route soon gets you out onto the hillside with a tough climb straight up and over the Range. The route then takes you across the eastern side of the Range and through Clwyd Forest before the welcome descent back into the Vale of Clwyd. A ride that requires a degree of fitness with rewards to match.

10
Loop de Loop

Fitness/Skill: Hard/Advanced  Total Distance: 53.5  Ride Time: 6 Hrs

kf0dkf0d

Comprising of 5 interlinked loops, this route really has the potential to test even the most hardened rider. The loops however make it possible for slightly less experienced riders to 'pick and choose' a shorter route if they so desire. Each individual loop has something a little different to offer, whether it be a long green lane climb or a fast singletrack descent, one thing will always be in the back of your mind, the feeling of adventure!
